SculptureTour Salina 2014 Call for Entries is OPEN.

We invite you to submit your application to the third annual SculptureTour Salina Exhibition, May 2014-April 2015. The Salina community has enthusiastically embraced this new program and welcomes your participation. 

 

SculptureTour Salina actively promotes the sale of artworks in each exhibition, encouraging corporate and private purchases throughout the community. Eleven sculptures have sold from the 2011 and 2012 exhibitions including the City of Salina's purchase of the two People's Choice Award artworks.

 2014 Juror

Tobias Flores

Assistant Professor of Art, Fort Hays State University

Toby was born in Flagstaff, Arizona in 1971 and has been interested in art since a very young age. While he was growing up his mother, father and other family members encouraged creativity in many ways. Although he did not visit a museum or gallery until he was in high school story telling, dancing, sewing, macramé and cooking were a part of everyday life. He studied printmaking, drawing and sculpture in San Diego receiving a BA from San Diego State University in 2000. He studied sculpture and blacksmithing at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale receiving a MFA in 2003. He now lives and works in Hays, Kansas with his wife, Libby and his two boys, Cooper and Oscar. He has been teaching sculpture at Fort Hays State University since 2006.

 

Policies

  • SculptureTour Salina (STS) is a juried competition, open to all artists working in durable sculpture materials suitable for extended outdoor display.
  • Artworks entered must be the original work of the submitting artist and be appropriate and safe for community display.
  • Each applicant may submit a maximum of 3 sculptures for jury consideration.
  • Between 20 to 30 sculptures will be awarded carefully selected placement in historic Salina downtown.
  • Selected sculptures will be exhibited for one year.
  • A stipend of $750 maximum ($500 for delivery and $250 return freight) is awarded for each accepted sculpture. Details provided upon acceptance.
  • SulptureTour Salina retains a 25% commission on all sold, commissioned and leased artwork.
  • Sculptures are required to remain installed for the entire duration of the exhibition.

Exhibition Selection

  • The Admission Jury consists of STS Chair, Jury Chair, City of Salina Arts and Humanities appointee, Salina Art Center appointee, a Sculpture Tour Salina sponsor and 2 Public Art Network qualified arts professionals.
  • The Award Juror is Tobias Flores, Assistant Professor of Art, Fort Hays State University (FHSU) in Hays, Kansas. Toby received a BA from San Diego State University and an MFA from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He has been teaching sculpture at FHSU since 2006.
  • All Juror's Merit Awards will be determined on site May 16, 2014.
  • Jury reserves the right to refuse any works upon delivery if different than photo submission.

Image Requirements

  • Submit ONLY digital images with 3 views of each artwork (front, side, back);
  • Only baseline JPEG files will be accepted (no progressive JPEG files will be accepted). High resolution, 1920X1920 pixels minimum;
  • All image files must be clearly identified with artist's name and title of artwork;
  • Artwork description must include materials and dimensions.

 

Application Requirements

  • Nonrefundable application fee, $25 per sculptor. Each applicant may submit up to 3 sculptures
  • Completed entry form
  • Resume/short biography
  • Three high resolution digital JPEG images per submitted artwork (front, side, back views)
  • Applications must be postmarked or submitted online byNovember 1, 2012.

Late entries will not be accepted
